Star Wars and Thor Teasers

Chesapeake Movie Thoughts No. 1

00:00
I wanted to start doing some short
00:02
videos talking about I think like recent
00:06
movie news or movie trailers or anything
00:08
worth talking about. So this will be the
00:11
first one, and I want to talk about last
00:14
week’s teaser trailers that came out.  There
00:16
was Thor: Ragnarok and there was Star Wars
00:19
the Last Jedi. And I’d like to talk about
00:22
Star Wars first. That was a good trailer.
00:26
That was an excellent teaser. A very good
00:28
example of how to do a teaser. It gave
00:31
you some images, just get some cool
00:36
looking shots from the movie as well as
00:39
a narration. How that just kind of hints
00:42
at something that doesn’t really give
00:44
you… You know it doesn’t really give anything away
00:46
and that ends with that surprising line
00:50
from Luke, “It’s time for a Jedi to end,”
00:53
and that’s going to get people talking.
00:55
That is a line that would get people
00:57
talking. That’s what you want, you want
01:00
people talking about the movie, and you
01:01
want to start building that hype and I
01:03
think they did an excellent job with
01:05
that teaser. I’m excited for the movie
01:06
because of that. The other one, it was
01:09
for Thor: Ragnarok, good trailer too, good
01:11
teaser. I think it came out a few days
01:14
before the Star Wars one. I think Star
01:16
Wars kind of took the wind out of the sails,
01:18
but yeah it was good. I like the tone.
01:22
It’s like a new tone for a Thor movie. It’s…
01:24
I’ve heard people say it’s like
01:26
Guardians of the Galaxy, a new tone. And I
01:28
think that’s good thing. I’m going to
01:29
love Guardians of the Galaxy. I did
01:35
notice that they had this
01:38
trailer set to a, like a classic rock
01:41
song — I think was a Led Zeppelin song —
01:42
which is something the Guardians of the
01:44
Galaxy started, and it’s kind of becoming a
01:45
trend to have, you know, a classic rock song
01:48
in the trailer. I think that invites a lot
01:51
of comparisons to Guardians as well, but the
01:54
the fact that it’s a…
01:56
It’s more of a less serious tone to
02:00
the movie, I think that’s part of the
02:04
comparison too, and I like that. I really
02:08
hope that this trend of like including
02:10
classic rock songs in the trailer… I
02:12
really hope that it doesn’t start to get on
02:15
our nerves pretty soon. I think it could.
02:17
The Guardians of the Galaxy… I mean, look,
02:19
the songs are an integral part of the
02:22
movie. That’s why they were in a trailer.
02:25
They’re all part of the
02:28
story. The story has a reason for them to
02:30
be there. They speak to the
02:33
character of Peter Quill in Guardians
02:35
of the Galaxy and they’re used
02:38
throughout the movie to establish mood
02:41
and tone. That’s not the case with most
02:44
of the movies where the trailer has
02:46
classic rock. You know a lot of times,
02:48
classic rock is not even going to
02:50
be in the movie. So yeah it still sounds
02:54
pretty cool now when you hear it, but
02:56
they’re doing a lot. If they keep doing
02:58
it, it might start to get on our nerves. Anyway I
03:01
don’t want to make the video too long.
03:02
That’s pretty much all I wanted to say, so
03:05
I’ll see you in the next video.
